overthinking

Different Worlds

That feeling of despair in your gut when you see a debate of a subject where the participants themselves do not realise that they are both subscribing to different and fundamentally opposed axioms. Living in different worlds. Knowing the discussion will never be solved, until both parties realise that.

Freedom vs equality. Only if we can mentally hold the values and shortcomings of both at the same time, can we debate meaningfully. Not to win, but to reach a balanced outcome that might converge on something fair?

Don't be an absolutist! Don't subscribe to an ism. Reality is never so black and white.

Note: I remember this sentence from a friend, many years ago, about my own religious beliefs: "No, he is not an atheist, he is simply still undecided". And he was right, I was, but now I decided to stay that way. You do not have to decide or to pick a side. Do not have to say that you are an atheist, a capitalist or any other ist. Be content in not taking a stand, in not knowing for sure. To fluctuate between ideas is to be free! Sanity is there, and probably truth too. In the void between the ism's and schisms.
